Harley Golf Cart

Have you ever seen a Harley golf cart? Many people do not know that this famous motorcycle company even made golfing vehicles. Well, they did and they were something to see.

The first Harley golf cart came out in the early 1960′s. It was also known by the name of ParCar by Columbia. Regardless of which name you use for it, these truly unique buggies were special. They had some special design features that set them apart from the crowd and it is these design features that make them such a collector’s item today.

One of the most interesting and useful features found on these early vehicles was its hinged rear end. What this meant to owners was that they could lift the rear of the buggy to expose the engine. This made working on the engine very easy. This hinged lift is one of the signature marks on the Harley golf cart.

Another unique feature that you find on some of the very early Harley golf cart models is the steering bar. This was often called a tiller bar by the old-timers because it resembled a tiller. A more or less straight bar that came out to the driver who moved it left or right to steer. Owners with this type of steering mechanism have a truly unique collector’s item. It should be noted that there were plenty of vehicles produced with the normal round steering wheel too. The normal round wheel became more popular and it became the exclusive means of steering, overtaking the tiller bar.

In the very early days, the Harley golf cart was a three-wheeler. One wheel in front, with two wheels in back. While this may sound like a signature mark it is not. Many of the buggies that were produced during the 1960′s had this three-wheel configuration. The Harley Davidson golf cart was just one of many that produced this odd-looking design. They went on to produce a four-wheel model and when this design concept took hold with the public, they discontinued making the three-wheel models.

Because of its name reputation and the love so many of its owners have for the various models, the Harley golf cart has something of a cult following. You can find a few online forums where the vehicles are discussed in detail and with fondness. These forums are a good place to get advice if you have repair or maintenance questions. They are also an excellent source of information when you need to track down repair parts or old service manuals. These forums are manned by others who love the old Harley golf cart and for the most part they are a friendly bunch of folks.

If you own one of these unique vehicles, you have something special. Some good news for you is that is easier to find repair parts now online than it was in the past before the Internet came along. When you need parts for your Harley golf cart, check online first. You might be able to find what you need in minutes rather than days.
