Motorized Golf Carts
Have you heard about the new motorized golf carts? Some people may refer to these are caddies or push caddies. They are not the vehicles that you get into and drive but rather they are rolling devices that you push ahead of you and they carry your clubs and bag. If you have not seen them yet, you will. Because of price decreases, motorized golf carts are becoming more popular each year.
Many golfers are deciding that they want to walk the course rather than drive it. Walking is a fantastic way to get some exercise, and walking the course brings back feelings of nostalgia for many of us who began playing before the insane popularity of driving carts came into being. But there are some golfers who may be physically challenged by walking and having to handle their clubs in the process. This is where motorized golf carts can come in handy.
Think of the usual push-forward club caddy—the kind that you set your bag on and strap down. Now, think of adding a small electric motor to the caddie to help drive the wheels. This, in simple terms, is what the new motorized golf carts are, and they offer a lot of benefits to those who use them.
A good way to learn more about these devices is to simply spend some time online looking at some of the models that are available. There are a few issues you want to pay attention to when you research these devices:
Motorized golf carts are not worth a flip if they do not have enough power to pull the caddie up an incline. They have to have to powerful enough to carry your gear around the entire course, yet they have to be easy to operate and control.
When you look at the various models that are available, make a note of which models offer easy on and easy off switches. Unless you are considering a remote control device (and, yes, they are available as well), you want the controls on the handle, right where you can get to them. The better brands all offer some type of speed control that allows you to adjust the speed of the caddie to match your walking speed.
You will also want to look at the motorized golf carts that are built out of good quality metal, or preferably heavy duty steel. This level of construction will ensure that the caddie will last for years. However, you do not want to buy one that is too heavy in weight. Many models come in at around 20 pounds or so and that seems to be about right for most players. Remember to take into account the added weight of the battery. All motorized golf carts use rechargeable batteries as the power source.
Lastly, check out the wheelbase. A wheelbase in the neighborhood of 24 to 26 inches is a good choice. This allows plenty of stability for the caddie, especially on inclines—both going up and coming down.
This quick check list will get you started. You can learn a lot more about motorized golf carts by visiting a few of the websites that offer them. This is time well spent if you want to begin walking the course again.
